Alienware today announced two new models in its gaming range of laptops for the Australian market: the 18in M18x and the 14in M14x. It also announced a refresh of the 11.6in M11x (the R3 version).

All three laptops will be available with Second Generation Intel Core CPUs (formerly codenamed Sandy Bridge). NVIDIA graphics will be available across the board, while the flagship M18x will also have an option for dual graphics cards using either NVIDIA's SLI technology or AMD CrossFire X.

The M18x isn't available just yet, but when it is it will be the biggest and most powerful model in the range, with Alienware claiming it to be the 'most powerful 18in gaming laptop in the universe'. It will offer true desktop replacement performance; along with dual graphics cards, it will also sport a Core i7 Extreme Edition CPU with a factory-overclocked speed of 4GHz, support for up to 32GB of 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM and a Full HD (1080p) screen with a 3D option.

The M14x will be aimed at users who want a mid-sized laptop with plenty of performance. It will be offered with up to 8GB of 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM and a quad-core Core i7 CPU. Graphics will be handled by an NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M graphics adapter with up to 3GB of RAM, while storage options will include either a 7200rpm hard drive or an SSD (solid state drive). NVIDIA's Optimus graphics-switching technology will also be implemented for users who want to alternate between fast graphics performance and long battery life.

The M11x will continue to be a little powerhouse. This 11.6in model (1366x768 resolution) will be offered with dual-core, 17W Core i7 or Core i5 CPUs, up to 16GB of 1333MHz RAM, and either a 7200rpm hard drive or an SSD. It will be available with 2GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M graphics.

All three laptops will feature USB 3.0, HDMI 1.4 and will be able to run games in 3D once connected to a 3D-capable TV. Meanwhile, the M18x and M14x will also feature Intel's Wi-Di (wireless display) technology, allowing them to be wirelessly connected to a big-screen display.

Pricing for the M18x will start from $3299, the M14x from $2199 and the M11x from $1499.
