Internode has partnered with FetchTV to provide its customers with a comprehensive IPTV offering. In a busy week for FetchTV, the deal was announced not long after FetchTV also revealed that it would partner with Optus in the second half of 2011, bringing the total number of ISPs to have signed with the company to four. Internode joins Optus, iiNet and Westnet in the list of ISPs that now offer the FetchTV IPTV service.

FetchTV has also announced a major redesign of its user interface, which it says now floats over the channel a user is watching, making it even easier to access and use. FetchTV is delivered through a set-top box that can be used not only for watching television shows and movies (including pay-per-view options) over Internode's network, but also to watch and record free-to-air digital TV (via three TV tuners).

Internode's Simon Hackett said in a statement that after a six-month trial the company identified how customers made use of the FetchTV service and tailored the ISP's network to provide an optimal user experience. Hackett said of the FetchTV service that he "expects demand to grow as people recognise just how great it is".

FetchTV is available to every Internode ADSL2+ broadband customer in two versions, depending on line capabilities: Lite and Full. The Lite service is available to everyone and includes the set-top-box with free-to-air TV and PVR functions, along with access to pay-per-view movies, but no access to IPTV channels or free movie and TV episode content. The Full service includes access to IPTV and free movies and TV shows along with everything that the Lite version offers. However, the full version is only available to users who are on an Internode/Agile ADSL2+ port, which needs to have a stable connection speed of 5.5 megabits per second (Mbps).

Internode states in its FAQ that a special line profile is activated when FetchTV is in use (although this can be changed in customers' My Internode tool), which aims to give priority to FetchTV content and can possibly degrade regular Web services. The link is said to use 1-3Mbps of bandwidth when video content is being viewed over the service. Internode will check the line upon application of the FetchTV service to make sure it can be delivered effectively.

Plans for FetchTV and channel packages can be viewed on Internode’s Web site.
