LG to show new ultrabooks in Las Vegas

The smallest model has a 13.3-inch screen and weighs less than the corresponding MacBook Air model

LG Electronics has introduced two new ultrabooks -- the Z330 and Z430 -- which will be on display at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas next week, the company said on Thursday.

The Z330 is the smaller of the two, and has a 13.3-inch screen with a 1366-by-768 pixel resolution; 4 GB of memory; and a Solid State Drive that can store either 120 GB or 256 GB.

The device is 14.7 millimeters thick and weighs 1.21 kilograms, which makes it slightly lighter than the 13.3-inch version of Apple's MacBook Air (which weighs 1.35 kilograms). The success of the MacBook Air is one of reasons for the proliferation of the ultrabook form factor.

The Z430 has a larger 14-inch display but with same resolution. However, it comes with up to twice the amount of memory. The product also has both a traditional hard drive, that can store up to 500 GB, and Solid State Drive with either 16 GB or 128 GB of storage. The latter is optional, according to LG's spec sheet.

The Z430 is almost 2 centimeters thick and weighs 1.5 kilograms.

The Z330 and Z430 are both powered by second generation Intel Core i processors. They will start shipping in during the first quarter. At this point, the company isn't providing any details on what the two ultrabooks will cost.

Ultrabooks are expected to be one of the main trends at this year's CES, with new products from Hewlett-Packard, Acer and Lenovo, as well.
