Dark Horse to release digital Prototype 2 comic on 15 February

Comic series to bridge the conclusion of the original Prototype and the beginning of the upcoming sequel

Vancouver-based developer, Radical Entertainment, has partnered with Milwaukie-based publisher, Dark Horse Comics, to create an all-new comic series based in the Prototype universe.

Scheduled to coincide with the 24 April release of Prototype 2 by Activision Blizzard, the new comic series with be released in digital format starting from 15 February.

The move is similar to what Radical Entertainment did in 2009 for the release of the original Prototype, where DC Comics' Wildstorm imprint released a series of six comics that acted as a prequel to the game.

As the original Prototype ended on a cliff hanger, Dark Horse's comic book series is designed to let players re-familiarise themselves with the story and find out what happened to the protagonist, Alex Mercer, after the original game and the upcoming sequel.

"We're always looking for meaningful ways to expand the Prototype universe, and Dark Horse Comics is an industry-leading creative powerhouse delivering best-in-class graphic storytelling that integrates deeply to the core of our IP", Radical Entertainment studio head, Ken Rosman, said.

"With this partnership, our fans will finally be given answers to some dramatic loose ends from the first Prototype game, as well as the truth behind Alex Mercer's descent and evolution into a twisted shadow of his former self for Prototype 2".

According to Activision Blizzard, the comic book series will consist of three separate instalments, with the first entry, titled "The Anchor" and illustrated by Hawkeye: Blindspot artist Paco Díaz, continuing the story of Alex Mercer from the first game.

The second story, titled "The Survivors" and illustrated by Deadpool artist Chris Staggs, focuses on a small group of New York residents trying to escape the city after the outbreak of the Blacklight virus.

The third and final story, titled "The Labyrinth" and illustrated by Predator artist Victor Drujiniu, features the back story of Prototype 2’s new protagonist, Sgt. James Heller.

"Sgt. James Heller's heart wrenching back story meshed with the sheer amount of over-the-top shape-shifting action in PROTOTYPE 2 lend themselves perfectly to a comic book series", Dark Horse Comics editor, Dave Marshall, said.

"We worked extremely closely with Radical Entertainment's story team for Prototype 2, and can't wait to visually walk fans through the many dark secrets strewn throughout the tattered world of New York Zero".

Dark Horse comics will be publishing each new comic in the series every other week beginning from 15 February at Digital.Darkhorse.com.

The original Prototype had the dubious honour of being released at the same release window as Sucker Punch Productions' Infamous superhero game in 2009, leading the public to question which game copied the other, as well as which one was the superior release.

With Infamous 2 having already been released in mid-2011, the 24 April launch of Prototype 2 means that the game will not be clashing with the release of a competing title in the same time frame.

HP OfficeJet Pro 8730

I've had a multifunction printer in the office going on 10 years now. It was a neat bit of kit back in the day -- print, copy, scan, fax -- when printing over WiFi felt a bit like magic. It’s seen better days though and an upgrade’s well overdue. This HP OfficeJet Pro 8730 looks like it ticks all the same boxes: print, copy, scan, and fax. (Really? Does anyone fax anything any more? I guess it's good to know the facility’s there, just in case.) Printing over WiFi is more-or- less standard these days.
