Google cranks up Nexus 7 publicity machine with first ad

Google has released its first Nexus 7 commercial

Google has released its first Nexus 7 commercial, which depicts the 7-inch tablet as a seemingly limitless playground.

FIRST LOOK: Google's Nexus 7 tablet

COMPETITION: 10 terrific apps for the new iPad

The Google Nexus 7 tablet, the 16GB version of which has sold out online and in stores since becoming available less than two weeks ago, is an Android 4.1-powered device seen by some as a potential Amazon Kindle Fire killer and by others as an Apple iPad challenger.

Google plays up the flexibility of the quad-core processor machine in its commercial (seen below), in which a father and son go camping and find innumerable uses for the Nexus 7, including as a flashlight, compass, camera, storybook, encyclopedia and video display. And they even get a bit dirty and banged up in the middle of nature. (And yes, there's an explanation at the end of the commercial of how they're accessing the Internet with the Wi-Fi-only device despite being out in the wild.)

While Google has promoted other products, such as its Chrome Web browser and flagship search engine via commercials, it has been less marketing focused on Android, which up until now has been inside devices sold by others. The fact that Google is now selling its own Android-powered tablet has perhaps given the company more incentive to start showing off Android's capabilities, not that its first Nexus 7 ad even mentions Android.

If you can afford the price tag, it is well worth the money. It out performs any other laptop I have tried for gaming, and the transportable design and incredible display also make it ideal for work.
