Customers who had subscribed to Apple's MobileMe cloud service for email, storage and more have found themselves being offered 25GB of storage until their next payment, in 2050. The issue was first reported by The Unofficial Apple Weblog, who was alerted to it by a Twitter user. (TUAW advises: "To check to see what your storage plan is, go to Settings>iCloud>Account on your iOS device.")

The Today's iPhone blog reports that Apple customers who never used MobileMe have also been offered the free long-term storage extension.

Apple blogs have reached out to Apple for comment, but surmise this must be a glitch, as an additional free 20GB (that typically would cost $40 per year) offered to users of Apple's discontinued $99-a-month MobileMe service was to have expired on Sept. 30, 2012. Apple had given away that storage in hopes of urging MobileMe users convert to its newer iCloud service, which starts at 5GB of free storage.

The likely glitch comes in the wake of Apple's miserable week of iOS Maps backlash, which CEO Tim Cook wound up apologizing for. (Steve Jobs apologized for the MobileMe mess a few years back.)

As the Maserati or BMW of laptops, it would fit perfectly in the hands of a professional needing firepower under the hood, sophistication and class on the surface, and gaming prowess (sports mode if you will) in between.
