Pricing leak: Entry level iPad mini may cost $313, top end at $821

Leaked pricing on a German retailer suggests 16 models in the pipeline

Reports claim there won't just be one iPad mini - Apple is producing 16 iPad mini models ranging from 8GB to 64GB and priced from £200 ($313) to £523.65 ($821).

The leaked pricing comes from German electronics retailer, Media Markt and is reported on German Blog Schimanke.

Contrary to rumours, there will be a 4G LTE iPad mini, if the leaked screen shot is to be believed. The high-end version will sport 64GB with 4G and 3G and will cost €650 (or AU$821), apparently.

Given the fact that the iPod touch pricing starts at £249 (AU$390) for a 32GB model, the £200 entry-level price for the iPad mini seems unlikely, however.

The iPad 2 costs £329 and the New iPad price starts at £399 for the 16GB model raising to £659 for the 64GB 3G model.

The iPad mini models will be available in black or white and in 8GB, 16GB, 32GB and 64GB capacities, according to the claims.

Of course we take such claims with a huge pinch of salt. First, it seems unlikely that Apple would have provided any of its retail partners with details of the new product as yet. Second, there seems to be some confusion as to whether the pricing on the German website is in Euros or Dollars. The German site seems to think the pricing is in Euros. With the currency conversion taken into consideration we get the following pricing which is far higher than the competition, and certainly more than our readers are prepared to pay - according to our poll, 44.6% will not pay more than £200 for an iPad mini (vote in our poll and let us know how much you would pay for the iPad Mini.)

8GB WiFi Black/White, 249, £200.89, $322.60

8GB Cellular Black/White 349, £281.57, $452.16

16GB WiFi Black/White 349, £281.57, $452.16

16GB Cellular WiFi Black/White 449, £362.28, $581.74

32GB WiFi Black/White 449, £362.28, $581.74

32GB Cellular Black/White 549, £442.96, $711.31

64GB WiFi Black/White 549, £442.96, $711.31

64GB Cellular Black/White 649, £523.65, $840.87

(Note: the US pricing would be less depending on the Tax in that state).

If the pricing is actually in dollars, as VentureBeat seems to think, we'd be looking at a more favourable starting price of £155 ex Vat (£186 inc VAT). The top of the range would cost £404.15 (£484 inc VAT). In comparison, the equivalent 7in tablet from Amazon starts at £159 for the 16GB Kindle Fire HD.
