Rdio revamps iOS and Android app

Mobile version re-skinned to match Web interface

Popular subscription music app Rdio has undergone a dramatic makeover in its latest mobile version, released this morning for the iOS and Android platforms.

The new Rdio app, now at version 2.0.0, gives mobile devices like the iPhone, iPad, and Android tablets and smartphones, the same clean look and feel that the recently-revitalised Web interface has.

The Web interface at Rdio.com has sported the minimal, clean-lined menu system, which focuses largely on album art in an Apple-eqsue rounded-corners grid layout, for several months. The app also inherits the Web’s side-bar for navigation through users’ music and the network’s Top Charts, New Releases and Heavy Rotation crowd-sourced music suggestions.

The new Rdio app can be used as in Remote Control mode when the service is playing on another device, like the Web interface of a PC or laptop, or on another mobile tablet or smartphone. It is possible to queue tracks and search for music in the same way as Sonos’s wireless music system.

Two weeks ago, Rdio announced that it had partnered with Facebook to offer Rdio subscriptions as gift options within the social network. Rdio competitor iTunes has also recently introduced the sale of iTunes store credit within Facebook.
