iPhone 6 with fingerprint sensor to launch alongside cheaper iPhone with six colours in June - analyst

KGI Securities analyst says iPhone 6, or iPhone 5S, will also have improved camera and A7 chip

Apple's iPhone 5S, sometimes also referred to as the iPhone 6, could launch in June or July with a built-in fingerprint sensor, improved camera and an A7 chip, alongside a cheaper iPhone available in six colours, an analyst has predicted.

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has correctly predicted Apple product launches in the past, has made his Apple hardware predictions for 2013 this week, claiming that the two new iPhones are likely to launch alongside each other later this year.

The analyst thinks that the iPhone 5S will have updated internals, but largely the same chassis as the iPhone 5. The only difference to the body of the device will be the introduction of a built-in fingerprint sensor, he says. Kuo also thinks that the iPhone 5S will have an improved camera and will have a more powerful A7 chip. SEE: iPhone 6 release date, rumours and leaked images

As for the widely speculated cheaper iPhone, Kuo expects that it will be a slightly revamped "new design" iPhone 5 with a lower-cost plastic chassis that could be available in six colours.

This is not the first we've heard about the possibility of more colour options for the next iPhone, with Jefferies analyst Peter Misek and Topeka Capital analyst Brian White previously claiming that the next iPhone could come in six to eight colour options similar to the latest iPod touch's design.

This week, Misek also predicted a June or July launch for the next iPhone, with Apple expected to begin preliminary builds of the device in March. He also agreed that a low-cost iPhone would launch at the same time, and claimed that Apple is currently in the process of testing prototypes of the two new models.

Reuters recently reported that Apple's Phil Schiller had quashed rumours of a cheaper iPhone in an alleged interview, but the report was later withdrawn, leading to further speculation about such device.

Former Apple CEO John Sculley has said that he thinks that the company would be wise to make a cheaper iPhone for emerging markets.
