NetIQ Announces Next Generation AppManager Connector for MOM - NetIQ Security Management Pack for MOM Strengthens Security for Enterprise Customers

 • 30 October, 2003 08:35

SAN JOSE, Calif. — Oct. 29, 2003 — NetIQ Corp. (Nasdaq: NTIQ), a leading provider of Systems & Security Management and Web Analytics solutions, today announced an updated NetIQÒ AppManagerÒ Connector for Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM). NetIQ also announced that its Security Management Pack for MOM utilizes the MOM Software Development Kit (SDK) 2.0.

The AppManager Connector for MOM automatically translates and forwards event information from NetIQ® AppManagerÒ Suite to MOM, allowing organizations using MOM to combine its capabilities with AppManager to monitor mission-critical servers and applications in a multi-platform enterprise. The updated AppManager Connector for MOM, which leverages the MOM Connector Framework (MCF), can forward alerts in either direction from AppManager to MOM or from MOM to AppManager. This enables customers to deploy the combination of AppManager and MOM in the most effective manner for their individual environments.

“MCF is a Web services-based framework that delivers on Microsoft’s commitment to integrate MOM into heterogeneous environments,” said David Hamilton, director of the Enterprise Management Division at Microsoft Corp. “Microsoft is pleased to be working with NetIQ on its announcement of an MCF connector joining AppManager to MOM 2000 to provide an integrated customer view of heterogeneous enterprises.”

MCF provides a Web services interface to MOM that enabled NetIQ to rapidly develop the AppManager Connector for MOM. This example illustrates the power of Web services technology that many customers are leveraging in their next-generation application architectures. The AppManager Connector for MOM provides a powerful solution for managing Web services applications by bridging AppManager’s ability to monitor cross-platform, cross-vendor Web services with MOM’s capabilities to monitor the Microsoft infrastructure.

“MCF is based on Web services technology that enables more efficient development of connector applications,” said David Pann, vice president of product management in the Systems Management Group at NetIQ. “As a result, we are able to update our AppManager Connector for MOM quickly providing increased management benefits to users of both MOM and AppManager, including comprehensive management of Web services.”

The Security Management Pack for MOM, which utilizes the MOM SDK2, is an integrated security management solution that extends MOM to perform basic host intrusion detection, security event monitoring and reporting for Microsoft Windows and Internet Information Services.

Umpqua Bank, an Oregon state-chartered bank recognized for its entrepreneurial leadership and innovation, implemented MOM and NetIQ’s Security Management Pack for MOM to strengthen security of its Windows infrastructure, meet regulatory requirements and prevent security breaches. “We chose NetIQ as the best-of-breed solution available to extend MOM’s capabilities and enhance our security,” said Peter Wild, director of technology for Umpqua Bank. “Our core competency is found in transaction processing so we like to partner with other organizations that exhibit the same qualities. We are a leader in our industry and we partner with leaders in their own respective industries such as Microsoft and NetIQ.”
