Sleeping Dogs coming to PlayStation Plus in February

Open world gangster adventure latest game added to online service

Namco Bandai’s Sleeping Dogs will be the high profile addition to the PlayStation Plus line-up in February.

The open world action title, released almost six months ago in August to critical acclaim and commercial success, will be available to subscribers from February 7.

At that time, Sony Computer Entertainment will also be running a special discount of over 30 per cent on the 90 day membership.

Compared to the standard price of $19.95, the 90 day membership will be available for $13.45 until February 21.

Those with a current PlayStation Plus membership will also be able to get the discount by extending their membership on top of their current one.

Originally developed as an Activision title under the True Crime moniker, the future of Sleeping Dogs looked numbered following its cancellation in 2011.

Fortunately, Square Enix recognised the potential in the game and stepped in the same year to acquire the publishing rights to it.

After shedding the Activision owned True Crime name, developer United Front turned the game into an original title and released it last year as Sleeping Dogs.

The game story follows the efforts of an undercover cop, Wei Shen, who attempt to take down the Hong Kong Triads on their home turf.

Set on a simplified representation of Hong Kong island, the player navigates the open world environment while fighting the way up the criminal organisation to take it down from the inside.

While the game does not have the same amount of scale as Grand Theft Auto IV, it more than made up with an engaging story and responsive combat engine.

Other PlayStation Plus titles to expect in February include F1 Race Stars and Quantum Conundrum, both from Namco Bandai.

The lack of a Vita port of Sleeping Dogs and F1 Race Stars means that PlayStation Vita will instead have access to Sony’s WipeOut 2048 and Ubisoft’s Lumines Electric Symphony on February 14 and 21 respectively.
