Snapshot: Denon AH-D600 Music Maniac headphones

Denon’s audiophile headphones are built specifically for the discerning music lover

If you’ve got a collection of high-quality music files, or if you listen to your CDs through an expensive amplifier and source, or even if you’ve got your iPhone or Android phone stocked up with music you like on Spotify or Rdio, you can make use of a high-quality set of headphones.

Denon launched a swathe of headphones in Australia in October, and we liked the AH-NCW500 when we tried them out. The AH-D600 comes from Denon’s Music Maniac range — designed for audiophile buyers who want the absolute best sound quality, construction and design.

The AH-D600 headphones are big over-the-ear models with powerful 50mm speaker drivers — this means loud maximum volumes, plenty of bass power, and hopefully excellent fine sound detail. The ear-pads are cut in Denon’s patented pentagonal shape, to best fit around the wearer’s ears, and they’re very soft and pliable.

The AH-D600’s flexible and adjustable headband is also leather wrapped, and the plastic that the rest of the headphones are built from is very thick and sturdy — there’s a lot of attention been paid to making these headphones feel like they’re worth their $599 asking price.

You get a normal 3.5mm stereo cable, as well as a 3.5mm cable with iPhone, iPad and iPod support (including an integrated microphone for calls) — none of the lossy wireless audio codecs and streaming standards of lesser models. There’s no active noise cancelling either — nothing that might mess with the neutral and moderate sound quality of these headphones.

If you’re looking for a premium pair of headphones, you could do a lot worse than to check out a pair of Denon AH-D600s. You’ll find them in specialist hi-fi stores around Australia.

If you can afford the price tag, it is well worth the money. It out performs any other laptop I have tried for gaming, and the transportable design and incredible display also make it ideal for work.
