Shared data plans coming soon: Telstra

Telstra has announced it will soon offer data plans that can be shared across multiple mobile devices

Telstra has announced it will soon offer data plans that can be shared across multiple mobile devices like smartphones and tablets.

Australia's largest telco hasn't released any concrete details on the plans, only saying that that they will be released "in the coming months".

In a post on the company's Exchange blog, Telstra's Director of Mobile Broadband, Anthea Roberts, said the plans will allow customers to share data across a number of mobile devices.

You may have read today about some new plans we will be launching, which will let you share your data across a number of mobile devices (such as your smartphone, tablet or Mobile WiFi).

We believe these plans will be perfect for people who want to streamline and make the most of the data they pay for, without complication.

These will be a brand new set of plans for Telstra and we hope to share more information with you on them in the next few months.

It is unknown whether Telstra will charge a per-device fee for the plans like US networks Verizon and AT&T, which already offer similar shared plans.

In addition to revealing the shared plans, Telstra will tomorrow release a range of new month-to-month mobile plans without the requirement of a lock in contract.

The four new "no lock-in plans"range from a $60 per month plan up to a $130 unlimited plan with varying value and data inclusions depending on the plan.

All plans included unlimited SMS messages to all Australian mobile numbers. Calls on the non-unlimited plans are charged at 99 cents per minute with a 40 cent connection fee, while MMS messages are billed at 50 cents each.

Excess data is charged at 10 cents per megabyte (MB) once the included data allowance is exceeded.

Telstra will also offer a bonus 1GB of data per month for any customer who signs up to one of the new no lock-in plans before Monday 1 July.

If you can afford the price tag, it is well worth the money. It out performs any other laptop I have tried for gaming, and the transportable design and incredible display also make it ideal for work.
