Developers offered streamlined app development platform for multi-mobile devices

Native apps give developers more control, tighter security and a better user experience, according to Embarcadero

Embarcadero Technologies, the application and database software development supplier, has launched an app development suite for developers who need to create native apps for PCs, tablets and smartphones and get them to market fast.

The RAD Studio XE4 suite "lets users manage one codebase, one team and one schedule without sacrificing performance", said Embarcadero Technologies.

True native apps run directly on the device hardware with no scripting or interpretive layer. They give developers "more control, tighter security and a better user experience", the supplier said.

Many multi-device app development solutions today rely on virtual implementations or are interpreted at run time, and are not true native apps, said Embarcadero Technologies.

Michael Swindell, Embarcadero senior vice president of products, said, "This year nearly a billion smartphones will be shipped, and for the first time tablets are also projected to outsell PCs.

"At the same time ISVs and enterprises are under tremendous pressure to quickly deliver a great user experience across multiple device platforms."

Swindell said, "Unlike HTML5 and JavaScript-based mobile development solutions, RAD Studio XE4 enables organisations to deliver script-free, true native apps across smartphones, tablets, PCs and Macs with a single codebase."

RAD Studio XE4 offers a full application framework for iOS, Windows and Mac OS X operating systems, with support for Android coming soon, said Embarcadero.
