Apple's iOS 7 beta 2 brings new operating system to iPad

In addition to iPad compatibility, the update brings other tweaks to iOS including the return of Voice Memos, new Siri voices and more

Developers can now get iOS 7 on the iPad and iPad mini for the first time thanks to the release of the iOS 7 beta 2, which became available to developers on Monday.

Apple's iOS 7 beta 2 is compatible with the iPad mini, iPad 2 and the third- and fourth-generation iPads, and gives us our first official look at what Apple's tablets will look like from autumn, when iOS 7 is set to be released to the public.

Yesterday, we shared screenshots that had been created using an iOS 7 emulator program, and highlighted that there was the odd inclusion of the torch button in the iPad screenshots (the iPad doesn't currently have a flash). As predicted, the iOS 7 beta 2 reveals that there is no torch button present in the iPad version of the software. Overall, though, iOS 7 on iPad looks largely the same as the iPhone version.

In addition to iPad compatibility, iOS 7 beta 2 also brings some other bug fixes and improvements. Voice Memos has returned in the new beta, and new Siri voices have been introduced.

Among the other tweaks are a new clock icon and animation in Control Center, a new button in Weather to provide access to all cities, Reminders improvements, iMessage avatars and a new Newsstand interface.

Also on Monday, Apple released the second beta of its upcoming Mac operating system, OS X 10.9 Mavericks. Both iOS 7 and OS X Mavericks were first unveiled at WWDC 2013 on 10 June.
