Apple's next-generation iPhone, dubbed iPhone 5S or iPhone 6, could come with support for the LTE-Advanced wireless standard, offering twice the data speed as the current 4G LTE networks.

That's according to The Korea Times, which this week reports that Apple is in talks with SK Telecom about launching an LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) iPhone within the coming months. LTE-A is an improved version of the LTE (long-term evolution) wireless standard currently supported by Apple's iPhone 5, and can provide up to 150bps data transfer speeds.

The report cites an anonymous SK Telecom executive who apparently said: "SK Telecom is approaching Apple to put our LTE-A technology on the upcoming iPhone 5S. We are in the middle of negotiations."

The source also said that there is "no reason" for Apple not to introduce LTE-A with its next iPhone.

An upgraded version of Samsung's Galaxy S4 is the first device to use SK Telecom's new technology, and the insider says, in addition to this and Apple's iPhone 5S, there are five more planned LTE-A devices set to launch this year.

The Korea Times suggests that Apple may use new chipsets from Qualcomm in order to bring LTE-A functionality to the iPhone with the next generation.
