The Acrobat software consists of two main components - Acrobat proper, which is a utility that can create PDF files, and the free Acrobat Reader, which is widely distributed on the Internet and elsewhere. The full Acrobat package can not only read PDF files, it can also modify them or export their contents into other file formats.
The latest Acrobat includes improved collaboration features, such as the ability to post a PDF document on a Web server, where authorised people can access it to make comments or modifications. The software allows such collaborative efforts to occur in real time, while tracking modifications and permitting rollback to earlier versions. All these functions can be performed within a Web browser.
Security has also been improved, with support for 128-bit encryption that is considerably more powerful than "the 40-bit encryption of previous versions. Digital signature standards are supported, so a document can be "verified as authentic and unmodified.
