ASI notebook keeps Betty Cuthbert mobile

 • 12 November, 2003 18:27

ASI Solutions and Intel Australia have jointly donated an ASI Amata portable computer to noted Australian Betty Cuthbert, in recognition of her wonderful work with the MS Society. Internet access to complement Betty’s notebook has been kindly donated by big blue Internet.

The notebook will be presented to Betty during her visit to the MS Society of Victoria’s “Nerve Centre” on Friday 14th November at 2:00pm. Representatives from the MS Society including Mr. Lindsay McMillan (CEO Nerve Centre), and from ASI Solutions, Intel Australia and big blue Internet will be present to witness Betty receiving her new notebook.

Betty’s new ASI Amata notebook, based on Intel’s Centrino Mobile Technology platform, includes wireless features and improved battery life for maximum mobility and versatility.

Betty Cuthbert is known as ‘The Golden Girl’. She won four Olympic gold medals for Australia, the highest number won by any Australian track and field athlete.

Betty was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1981. Since her diagnosis with MS, Betty has worked tirelessly on behalf of the MS Society to raise the profile of the disease and the work the MS Society does to support people living with MS Australia-wide. Betty has also committed not only her name but her own money to the “Betty Cuthbert Health and Wellness Complex”.

Since being diagnosed with MS Betty has experienced a decline in her mobility and is now confined to a wheelchair. She travels very little but is still keen to remain busy, in touch with friends and family and involved with the MS Society.

Many of the services offered by the MS Society have been adapted to computer-based format, to address the issues of mobility and isolation amongst people with MS. It is no longer necessary to physically attend “The Nerve Centre” to access the services provided by the MS Society. Much of the relevant information and many services are now available over the internet and through email or chatroom support groups.

“ASI Solutions has had a long standing business relationship with the MS Society, and we’re delighted to have the opportunity to assist a great Australian like Betty”, said Mr. Andre Massih, ASI’s Victorian state manager, “This notebook donation is our way of thanking Betty for her support of the MS Society, and ensuring that she remains in touch with the information, services and the people she needs.”
