Seagate Technology (NYSE: STX), the world’s leading developer of consumer electronics hard drives, announced today that the Seagate USB 2.0 Pocket Hard Drive has won the 2005 CES Innovation Award, given by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) and the 2005 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) to honor outstanding design and engineering excellence in consumer electronics. A panel of prominent industry designers, engineers and journalists judged more than 750 product entries on criteria including user value, aesthetics, innovative design, quality and contributions to the quality of life.

Seagate’s award-winning USB 2.0 Pocket Hard Drive can be seen at the 2005 International CES Innovations Showcase, at Innovations Plus in CES Central Plaza, in Las Vegas on January 6-9, 2005. Media are also invited to visit Seagate at CES Unveiled, the Official Press Event of CES, and discover the industry’s broadest line of innovative and fun external storage devices, including Seagate’s new CompactFlash Photo Hard Drive, the huge 400GB Seagate External Hard Drive with pushbutton backup, the 100GB Seagate Portable External Hard Drive and the CES award-winning Pocket Hard Drive. CES Unveiled is January 4, 2005 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, at LVCC Room S226.

“After an unprecedented development effort, Seagate this year launched the industry’s broadest variety of new hard drives in history, including the first-of-its-kind Seagate Pocket Hard Drive, and targeting applications ranging from handheld music players to DVRs and other consumer electronics, notebook computers, PCs and servers,” said BanSeng Teh, Seagate’s vice president of Asia Sales and Marketing. “This CES Innovations Award reflects the important success we’ve seen this year in Seagate’s newest target markets, and our growing global leadership as the number one provider of consumer-friendly hard drive storage. Its shape is designed to move in and out of a pocket easily and enables a unique retractable USB cable, and its rubberized feet keep it steady on the desktop. With a shock resistant design, it delivers high performance, low power consumption and reliability. The Seagate Pocket Hard Drive even includes software for data security and easy content management, letting users safeguard files – or the entire drive – with password protection.

The Seagate USB 2.0 Pocket Hard Drive features a worry-free one-year warranty that covers all parts and labor, plus free technical support, even after the warranty ends.
