Moga Pocket control pad for Android launching in August

The Moga Pocket wireless controller for smartphones makes its debut at PAX Melbourne

Gaming peripheral maker, Moga, will be launching its Moga Pocket smartphone controller in Australia on 21 August for $59. The controller, which makes its local debut at the PAX convention in Melbourne on 19 July, allows users to play smartphones games with the traditional analogue stick and button setup.

Pre-ordering the Moga Pocket at EB Games ahead of its August launch will net customers a free download of the Android version of Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour by Gameloft.

Moga game content test lead, Mike Sindona, said the company is actively engaging game studios and publishers to incorporate Moga Pocket support. “I do a lot of the legwork with developers, such as putting together all of the design and production documents”, he said.

Sindona said he typically composes a ten page outline of what a game does and how the actions could be mapped to buttons on the Moga Pocket before submitting it to developers. “Almost all of the developers do what we suggest for them to do, and that helps them cut out that bit of extra legwork in figuring out how to add a controller to their game, especially when they are mobile developers”, he said.

Game developers that have years of experience working with consoles have been quick to integrate Moga Pocket support into their games as “they understand how to make a physical controller work”. However, Sindona said that the studios that have been mobile-only during their career do not really have the means or experience in implementing a physical controller into a game. “That’s where we with our support staff come in to help them do this”, he said.

Sindona said the Moga Pocket already comes with support for popular Android titles such as Grand Theft Auto: Vity City, Shadowgun, Sonic CD and many others. "As we continue to engage the development community, support for more games will also increase over time,” he said.
