Aldi Mobile slashes data allowance on unlimited plan

Aldi Mobile has halved the monthly data allowance on its unlimited pre-paid plan from 5GB to 2.5GB

Low cost MVNO Aldi Mobile has halved the monthly data allowance on its unlimited pre-paid plan from 5GB to 2.5GB, just two months after the collapse of original wholesale provider ispONE.

The Aldi Mobile Web site currently advertises the changes on its Web site, saying it has "a new unlimited plan".

The plan remains the same price at $35 per month, but the data allowance has been slashed from 5GB to 2.5GB. Unlimited voice and SMS inclusions remain intact.

Aldi Mobile's two pay as you go plans, $15 and $30, along with its $15, 2GB data-only plan for tablet devices both remain without any changes.

The cuts to data inclusions on Aldi's unlimited plan come just two months after the MVNO struck a deal directly with Telstra wholesale, following the collapse of original wholesale provider ispONE.

ispONE entered voluntary administration in August, effectively cancelling its contract to provide 3G mobile services to both Aldi Mobile and Kogan Mobile, the latter of which was forced to shut down as a result.

The company was one of the largest wholesale mobile providers in Australia and had been a customer of Telstra Wholesale for mobile products, as well as a broadband and a "relatively small number of fixed line voice products."

Aldi Mobile first launched in Australia back in March.
