UPDATED - Optus to launch DSL service

Optus has announced it will offer a DSL service by March to the residential market, following a deal with Telstra Wholesale.

Optus will offer 512Kbps and 1500Kbps services, with conditions consistent with its cable services: flat rate pricing, personalised content and 'speed throttling' for excess downloads (as opposed to extra charges). Pricing and availability details will be announced later.

Optus currently offers business and residential cable services.

Melissa Favero, from Optus Corporate Affairs, said the decision to launch a residential DSL service resulted from the telco's cable service favouring the eastern seaboard.

Optus's HCF cable for broadband runs through Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney, so the decision to offer DSL will open Optus broadband to more consumers, she said.

Favero would not say when Optus's "long term" wholesale agreement will expire.

The company expects most OptusNet DSL customers will subscribe to the new DSL service bundled with telephony services.

Favero said those interested in trialling the service could contact Optus from tomorrow.

MSI GS75

As the Maserati or BMW of laptops, it would fit perfectly in the hands of a professional needing firepower under the hood, sophistication and class on the surface, and gaming prowess (sports mode if you will) in between.
