Breakthrough solution takes care of printer upkeep automatically

<p>Canon’s new e-Maintenance remote diagnostic system slashes multifunction device downtime and administration</p>
<p>Sydney, 7 December 2004 -- Canon Australia, a leading provider of imaging, output and document management solutions for enterprise, has announced the release in Australia of e-Maintenance. This breakthrough remote diagnostic system (RDS) reinforces Canon’s high-availability solutions for enterprise by even allowing Canon to telephone the customer or dispatch a service technician before they know one is required.</p>
<p>e-Maintenance is available to organisations of all sizes through Canon Australia’s direct sales team. In particular, organisations that rely heavily on large fleets of printers and MFDs that are spread over several locations will find that e-Maintenance dramatically reduces their involvement in device administration.</p>
<p>“At Canon, we specialise in listening to our customers, analysing their needs and then combining our hardware, software and services to solve their real business problems with solutions that stand apart from the rest of the market,” said Peter Matthews, Market Segment Manager – Software, Services &amp; Solutions, Canon Australia. “e-Maintenance could be the best example of this approach yet, as this simple yet advanced solution will cut the costs and time associated with managing large fleets of printers and MFDs, as well as the direct impact of maintenance incidents.”</p>
<p>Canon’s e-Maintenance software automatically polls printers and MFDs via the local network. Should service or supplies be required, it sends an incident report via email to Canon and the customer alike. The email contains all the information necessary to brief Canon technicians before they call the customer. Should a site visit be required, Canon can use the email to select the most suitable service technician and to equip them with the necessary parts and supplies.</p>
<p>e-Maintenance also allows Canon and customers to pre-empt low toner and stock levels, saving the customer from ordering them at the last minute.</p>
<p>For customers who pay for their printing equipment on a ‘click charge’ basis, e-Maintenance will automatically measure their print use at the end of each billing period, saving customers from collecting and faxing this data manually. This also eliminates the risk of user error.</p>

It truly is a breakthrough.”</p>
<p>The e-Maintenance server can poll a huge array of Canon printers and MFDs, with a full list being available from Canon. The e-Maintenance server software can be loaded on a PC running Windows or on a network attached device supplied by Canon. As long as the printers and MFDs that it monitors are connected to the same TCP/IP network, all e-Maintenance requires is access to a standard SMTP email gateway server to dispatch its incident alerts.</p>
