Product snapshot: Meeco Retro Phone Speakers

These Bluetooth speakers are unlike any you've seen before

The Meeco Retro Phone Speakers are a set of Bluetooth speakers that look unlike anything we’ve seen before. The retro styling is sure to appeal to someone, and it’s designed to be functional as well as look cool.

There are two components to the Retro Phone: a detachable speaker that you can use anywhere, and a base that you can use to charge the speakers. The base comes with a mini-USB port for charging the speaker, and another USB port for charging a phone or tablet.

The detachable speaker has a curved design reminiscent of an old retro-style telephone headset. You can use this headset to make calls using the speakerphone option, or privately by holding the headset up to your ear. The sound from the speakers isn’t great. It gets muffled at times and there is some distortion. Furthermore, the bass isn’t substantial.

The charging base has a little spot at the front for holding a device such as a smartphone or tablet. It’s not a charging dock per se, but it can charge an Android or iOS device (iPhone 4/S, 5/S or iPad) if you run a cable from the device to the USB port at the back of the dock. The dock needs to be plugged in to a computer to do this.

The speaker set looks unique and it’s very light. The charging base is quite bulky, but also very light. We think it could use a sub-woofer, which could supplement the sound when the speaker is attached.

There are three buttons located on the top of the speakers: the first one can be used to lower volume and skip back a track when held down; the middle button is the play/pause button, and holding it down will allow you to pair with your source device; the third button can be used to increase volume, and holding it down will allow you to skip to the next track.

On the underside of the speakers are magnetic notches, which allow you to dock it to the charging base. On the front are the speaker grills and microphone. Pairing is easy; simply hold the play/pause button, enable Bluetooth on your source device, and click on the speaker when it pops up. A static sound is played when your device is paired.

The Meeco Retro Phone Speakers is priced at AU$89.95 and comes in white, black, red, blue or green. It’s available from the Meeco sales Web site.

MSI GT76

It really doesn’t get more “gaming laptop” than this.

Jack Jeffries

MSI GS75

As the Maserati or BMW of laptops, it would fit perfectly in the hands of a professional needing firepower under the hood, sophistication and class on the surface, and gaming prowess (sports mode if you will) in between.

MSI PS63

The MSI PS63 is an amazing laptop and I would definitely consider buying one in the future.
