Panda Software has expanded its line of antivirus and security software, introducing new products for home, office, and corporate use.
The programs tackle the ongoing threat of viruses and worms, and protect against hackers who use spam to try to take advantage of vulnerabilities in software.
New products released Friday include Titanium Antivirus 2004, an antivirus program for home users, priced at US$40; and Platinum Internet Security, a security suite for small businesses, priced at US$70. Student versions are also available for US$20. BusinesSecure Antivirus, also for small businesses, is packaged with 5 to 25 licenses, starting at US$57. A separate version of BusinesSecure that includes Exchange Secure, designed for use with Microsoft Exchange Server, starts at US$88 for a five-license pack. Panda also markets EnterpriSecure, an enterprise-level product. All are available from Panda Software, and free trial versions are also available.
Panda positions Titanium Antivirus 2004 as suitable for home users and some small businesses. This update to Panda Antivirus Platinum provides standard protection against viruses, worms, and Trojan horse programs; it also guards against other security threats, say Panda representatives. In particular, it watches for so-called malware, malicious software that tries to break into a system through known software vulnerabilities. It tracks Windows patch alerts, too.
The program scans for viruses in inbound and outbound e-mail, and when users browse or download files. A new self-diagnosis function guards against viruses designed to disable antivirus programs. It also checks daily for virus definition updates, according to Panda. The program's new SmartClean2 technology automatically repairs damage from viruses.
The Platinum Internet Security program, designed for small businesses, is the first Panda configuration to guard specifically against spam. It includes many of Titanium Antivirus's features, including continuous scanning of incoming and outbound e-mail and Internet files.
The package also provides a personal firewall and automatic spam-blocking functions, as well as features that guard against spyware. Users or administrators can control Internet activity with a Web access control function that blocks some sites and types of usage.
Platinum Internet Security checks daily to update virus definitions, and it alerts the user to new virus and security threats.
BusinesSecure is packaged for use by servers and multiple workstations, and is licensed for use in increments of five. Components include the AdminSecure module for servers and a ClientShield feature for workstations on a network.
ClientShield provides antivirus functions, and also guards against spam, malware, and spyware. The software watches for intrusions and neutralizes them without requiring administrative action, according to Panda.
The FileSecure feature protects files on servers and works with various Windows systems, from NT to Windows Server 2003. Additional security is available with ExchangeSecure, a module sold separately for use with Microsoft Exchange Server versions 5.5 to 2003.
The EnterpriSecure program is designed for large corporate installations. It includes client-level antivirus and security functions, and administrative tools. It contains ExchangeSecure as well as software customized for other mail servers, including Lotus Domino.
