Chipmaker Intel will host the biggest gaming event ever at London's Imax cinema in the Science museum on 21 December. Gaming clans will compete in the tournament for a prize of £25,000 and the Intel Masters crown.
The event, which will be hosted by Red Dwarf star Chris Barrie, will invite 24 so-called gaming clans from across the UK, including Intel-backed group 4 Kings, to compete on three top-selling titles -- Counter Strike, Return to Castle Wolfeinstein and Warcraft 3.
The competition will take place on PCs running up to 3.06GHz and powered, of course, by Intel's Pentium 4 processor.
"Staging the Intel Masters allows us to demonstrate to existing gamers and the initiated what they have been missing so far," said David Mitchell Intel's head of brand marketing. "We hope the [event] will validate gaming as a recognised form of entertainment and challenge current mainstream perceptions of gaming."
Admission is strictly over 15s only, but there is no entrance fee. Free tickets for the six screenings will be made available on the day on a first-come-first-served basis.
