Australian Associated Press (AAP) has announced a deal with Optus for the provision of news content for Optus' Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS).
The daily multimedia news updates to Optus subscribers will be accompanied by the top photos of the day.
AAP new media business manager Elmar Platzer said the company has invested a considerable amount of time and effort into the development of multimedia-rich news content for this emerging new market.
In contrast to text-based telephone messaging services (SMS), MMS messages are not restricted to text, but can also carry image, audio and video content.
Updates will be provided at the time when most people are commuting to and from work, allowing them to keep abreast of the most recent news headlines in international or domestic affairs.
Each content update requested costs 75 cents.
