Taiwanese company MSI showcased a wide range of products at the Computex trade-show this year, but only a select few products will be released in Australia due to the intense competition characterising the local mobility market.

Australian marketing manager, Alicia Oliver, told Good Gear Guide MSI will be playing to its strengths with the release of an updated flagship gaming notebook, the GT72, a premium WorkStation notebook, the WT70 and, on the other end of the spectrum, an Intel-powered Windows tablet called the S100.

Premium gaming

The GT72 will supersede MSI’s current GT70 flagship; however, exact specs on the upcoming product remain sparse. Good Gear Guide confirmed it will feature Intel’s 4th gen (Haswell) Core i7 processor, a 17.3in screen with a 1920x1080-pixel resolution, and up to 32GB (8GB x 4) of DDR3L, 1600MHz RAM.

The greatest change to the notebook will be a sleeker design, Oliver said, which will help the company compete against established rivals Razer and Alienware, along with newcomer Aorus, who showcased its own 17.3in notebook called the X7.

Professional notebooks

MSI will be rallying behind its premium professional brand, WorkStation, which Good Gear Guide understands will inherit similar styling to the GT72. The top of the range WorkStation notebook will be the WT70, a 17.3in notebook expected to be priced between $3000 and $6000 in Australia, depending on the size and configuration.

The 17.3in WT70 will come with a 4th gen Intel Core i7 processor, NVIDIA Quadro K4100M graphics with 4GB of GDDR5 memory, up to three 128GB solid state drives with a RAID 2 configuration, in addition to a 1TB hard drive, 32GB of DDR3L SDRAM, and a vast array of ports.

Good Gear Guide anticipates the WT70 will be released in Australia within the next couple of months.

One for the masses

One MSI-branded tablet will also be released in Australia, a Windows 8.1 tablet called the S100. The S100 is a 10.1in tablet that has a 1200x800-resolution screen, is powered by a 1.33GHz dual-core Intel Atom (Baytrail) processor, has integrated Intel HD graphics, 2GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage, and support for microSD memory up to 32GB.

MSI representatives claim the tablet will retail for $400 when it is released in Australia, with availability expected by August.

As the Maserati or BMW of laptops, it would fit perfectly in the hands of a professional needing firepower under the hood, sophistication and class on the surface, and gaming prowess (sports mode if you will) in between.
