Motorola Moto X and 360: On sale in Australia, October

Motorola is readying the release of its Moto X flagship, a 5.2in Android smartphone ripe with innovative features

October is firming as the month of release for Motorola’s upcoming flagship, the second generation Moto X, and for the company's smartwatch, the Moto 360.

The Moto X offers all of the hardware expected from a flagship, but it differs from the pack by coming finished in sustainable woods and genuine leather. The second generation also gains a bump in screen size to 5.2-inches, a 13 megapixel camera capable of UHD recording and the use of curved metal for the chassis.

Motorola’s head of mobility for Australia, John Demezieres, told Good Gear Guide "the Moto X will be in Australia from October or November".

Motorola smartphones are currently not offered on postpaid plans by carriers in Australia. “We may enter the carrier channel,” Demezieres said tentatively.

Motorola’s smartwatch is scheduled for a launch locally in October, well ahead of the Christmas holidays.

The Moto 360 was the first Android Wear smartwatch to feature a circular display. It has a stainless steel watchface, a heart monitor and is wirelessly charged from an included charging dock.

The Moto 360 will be sold from popular consumer electronic stores, such as Dick Smith and Harvey Norman. Demezieres said Motorola aims to have the smartwatch sold at Australian telcos as the Moto 360 supports non-Motorola smartphones running Android 4.3 and above.

“The customer is looking for a smartwatch. Where would they look for one? I’m definitely in talks with the carriers.”

Motorola could not confirm the pricing of the Moto 360 or the Moto X, with details expected to surface closer to the official date of launch.

If you can afford the price tag, it is well worth the money. It out performs any other laptop I have tried for gaming, and the transportable design and incredible display also make it ideal for work.
