The Internet has been awash with leaks of a Nexus tablet built by HTC and a Nexus smartphone developed by Motorola. A report on Forbes claims the devices will be quietly announced tomorrow in a blog post.

"The source explained to me that Google had planned to hold an official event for the new tablet, but because it was still fine tweaking Android L, it decided against a ‘big reveal’", it said in the Forbes report.

Preorders for the Nexus tablet, codenamed Volantis, will begin on the 17th of October, while the tablet will go on sale 3 November. The 16GB variant is expected to cost $US399, with a 4G 32GB model retailing for $US499.

The Nexus tablet is rumoured to have an 8.9in, 2048x1440 screen, a 64-bit dual-core CPU, an NVIDIA Kepler GPU, an 8MP rear camera and a 3MP front-facing camera.

Brushed aluminium will be used for the frame alone in an effort to keep costs down. Distinctive HTC design traits will characterise the styling of Volantis, such as the company’s amplified, front-facing stereo speakers.

The Motorola Nexus 6 is rumoured to have a 5.2in, 2560x1440 screen, a 2.7GHz quad-core CPU, 3GB of RAM and a 13 megapixel camera, according to popular smartphone site GSMArena.

The duo of Nexus devices will be the first to feature the next version of Google’s popular mobile operating system, Android L. It remains unknown when Android L will be released to the current range of Nexus devices.

Google’s quiet unveiling would coincide with an Apple event being held tomorrow, which is expected to launch refreshed iPads, iMacs and MacBooks.
