Following from the very successful e310 model, Toshiba has just released a successor in the Pocket PC range, the e330. Similar in design and functionality to the e310 model, the e330 has some new features and upgraded specifications.
It houses the new XScale processor running at 300MHz, and is the first Pocket PC to do so. An upgrade in memory size to 64MB is welcome, rather than the 32MB of the e310 model. A much brighter and more evenly lit screen showcases the e330 in all its glory, and a more receptive D-pad is featured.
Setup of the connection software proved to be simple and quick. The e330 communicates with a PC via the supplied docking station; this also recharges the lithium ion battery.
The e330 doesn’t have a CompactFlash expansion slot but it does have a Secure Digital card slot for memory expansion and input/output cards. The e330 supports a USB keyboard if the optional USB cable is purchased.
The unit comes installed with the standard Pocket PC operating system, Pocket Word, Excel, Internet Explorer and Outlook. The e330 is the first Pocket PC to ship with Outlook 2000 instead of Outlook 2002. A built-in speaker, microphone and stereo headphone jack make use of the included Windows Pocket Media Player.
