Vodafone fends off home broadband with Wi-Fi Cube

Stocks Huawei Wi-Fi Cube 4G, which - spoiler - isn't a cube

Vodafone’s latest defence against home broadband is a “Wi-Fi Cube” capable of connecting 32 devices to its 4G network.

The telco announced today it will range Huawei's Wi-Fi Cube 4G, a modem that can generate wireless hotspots, on plans starting from $20 per month.

The move to range the modem follows research published by Telsyte, which claims the average household has “nearly eight devices capable of connecting to the Internet”.

Vodafone is hoping the plug-and-play setup of the Cube 4G, along with data plans of up to 25GB, will make it an attractive proposition against home broadband alternatives.

The Huawei modem can “connect up to 32 devices at any one time” and has a “Wi-Fi range of up to 200 metres”.

Customers will have the option of buying the Cube 4G on 12 or 24 month contracts. Alternatively, they can sign up to a month-to-month contract if they purchase the Huawei modem outright for $159.

The “Cube 4G” branding is a misnomer as the modem is in the shape of a rectangular prism.

Huawei's Wi-Fi Cube 4G is available from Vodafone stores today. Featured below is pricing from Vodafone’s official press release.

If you can afford the price tag, it is well worth the money. It out performs any other laptop I have tried for gaming, and the transportable design and incredible display also make it ideal for work.
