Major upgrades are coming to Netflix’s Australian website that are designed to make the service quicker and easier to use on tablets and touch enabled computers.
The upcoming website has been “built from the ground up” and is the first major upgrade to be made in four years.
Animations will guide users between separate webpages for an experience reminiscent of the applications used on smartphones and tablets.
Clicking the thumbnail of Daredevil, for instance, uses an animation to seamlessly populate a description, an episode overview, reviews and more.
People using a touchscreen device to stream Netflix will find the website easier to use as it supports more gestures. Rows of titles can be browsed easily a swipe at a time.
The update will help Netflix compete with local streaming video on demand services, such as Presto and Stan.
A global rollout starts today and it could take as long as two weeks for the updated website to go live in different countries. A “small number” of people may need to upgrade their browser for the new Netflix site to work.
