Cheap Moto E gets an expensive Australian price

Launches this week in Australia and New Zealand

Only last year Motorola campaigned to put a smartphone in the hands of people in third world countries. The then Google-owned company launched the Moto E, which was a fully fledged smartphone priced at a competitive $130 in the U.S. It launched in Australia shortly after for a respectable $179.

The company unveiled its successor in February, the second generation Moto E, and it remained inexpensive with a U.S. price of $150. The now Lenovo-owned company is bringing its budget smartphone to Australia, and it’ll have a hearty premium slapped onto its price.

It will go on sale on for $249 — that’s 39 per cent more than last year’s model and only $30 less than the acclaimed Moto G.

The Moto E has a 4.5-inch, 960x540 resolution screen for a density of 245 pixels-per-inch. It runs Android Lollipop and is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core CPU, 1GB of RAM and a 2390 milliamp-hour battery.

There’s 8GB of storage and a microSD card that will support a further 32 gigabytes of memory.

This year’s model supports 4G Internet and has a VGA front camera, in addition to its 5-megapixel rear camera.

Select retailers will stock the Moto E when it goes on sale on 18 June in Australia. It will go on sale in New Zealand on 22 June for $269.

If you can afford the price tag, it is well worth the money. It out performs any other laptop I have tried for gaming, and the transportable design and incredible display also make it ideal for work.
