25.5 million mobiles clutter Australian homes: MobileMuster

Lack of mobile recycling awareness still pervades

Currently, the number of unused mobile devices cluttering Australian homes has reached the 25.5 million mark, according to new data released by not-for-profit program, MobileMuster.

Of this whopping number, a total of four million are broken and no longer even working.

Despite these large figures, a gap of awareness in mobile recycling continues to pervade.

According to MobileMuster recycling manager, Spyro Kalos, with the number of hoarded mobile phones for the first time ever surpassing the Australia population figure, it is critical for Australians to start thinking about the environmental benefits of mobile device recycling.

He said, “Think of your mobile as a miniature mine, with 95 per cent of the materials and precious minerals from recycled phones being recovered and put back into the supply chain.”

To spread the message, MobileMuster has teamed up with author of ‘Lose the Clutter, Lose the Weight’, Peter Walsh, to encourage Australians to think twice about hoarding unused devices.

As part of the partnership between Walsh and MobileMuster to raise awareness, the duo have created a Hoarders Come Clean competition that is searching for Australia’s biggest mobile phone hoarder.

The competition can be entered via mobilemuster.com.au/hoarders.

If you can afford the price tag, it is well worth the money. It out performs any other laptop I have tried for gaming, and the transportable design and incredible display also make it ideal for work.
