Wayne Adams to Lead Organisation for 2004-2005; David Black Re-elected to Technical Council

HOPKINTON, Mass. – 3 December, 2004 – EMC Corporation, the world leader in information storage and management, today announced that two EMC senior technologists have been elected to key leadership and technical positions with the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA), the world’s pre-eminent industry organisation dedicated to advancing open storage and the adoption of storage networks.

Wayne Adams, EMC senior technologist, has been elected chairman of the board by the SNIA board of directors. Adams, who will serve a one-year term through 2005, succeeds outgoing Board Chair Sheila Childs, a member of EMC’s Software Group marketing team. David Black, who works in EMC’s Office of the CTO, was re-elected by the SNIA membership for a two-year term to SNIA’s Technical Council and will play an active role in helping to set the technical direction for SNIA activities, including further development of the Storage Management Initiative-Specification (SMI-S) standard.

SNIA is a not-for-profit organisation made up of more than 300 companies and individual members spanning virtually the entire storage technology industry. SNIA members share a common goal: to set the pace of the industry by advancing the adoption of storage networks as complete and trusted solutions.

As Chairman, Adams will lead the SNIA board of directors in maintaining SNIA’s mission and vision as well as in strategic planning, membership development, marketing, public relations, technical output and operational planning.

“To lead the SNIA is a tremendous opportunity, and I’m excited to be able to advance the organisation in a number of important strategic initiatives over the next year,” said Adams. “We will be particularly focused on serving the IT community with the momentum of the SMI-S initiative and ensuring that all of SNIA’s core programs are delivered in Europe, China and Japan.”

During his term, Adams will focus on a number of key initiatives and programs including ensuring that the SNIA SMI-S is implemented across the industry and deployed in data centres throughout the world. Also among his top priorities, Adams will lead efforts for the development of SNIA data classification best practices and SNIA data management services for Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) and the delivery of SNIA professional education.

Adams previously served as the SNIA Conferences Committee chair and as a leading member of the Storage Networking World Governing Board. Adams has also been twice re-elected to the SNIA board of directors for separate two-year terms.
