Notebooks are convenient for moving from A to B, but the majority of work you do on them is usually conducted near a mains power supply. For users who have let their notebook stretch its mobile legs, the results can sometimes be frustrating. It will generally give up before you do, within two or three hours.
For true road warriors, Electrovaya has come up with the PowerPad, a slim, notebook-sized external battery. It plugs in where your charger normally would, and promises up to 16 hours of use. We didn’t test it for the full 16 hours, but it was still going after 10. Electrovaya supplies a number of different leads for common notebooks, but it’s worth checking if yours is supported.
The PowerPad is compact and provides a significant boost to notebook battery life. At around $US500 it’s expensive, but if it can keep you productive while away from mains power, it might just be worth it.
