Four Points by Sheraton goes wireless with BigAir

 • 01 December, 2004 13:10

BigAir Australia today announced that the Four Points by Sheraton Darling Harbour, Sydney is one of the growing list of companies that has signed up to its high speed wireless broadband Internet service in the last six months.

In April this year, Four Points by Sheraton was hosting a large conference for a major technology company. Two days before the event, the hotel realised that its existing landline-based Internet service did not provide the sufficient bandwidth or reliability necessary to meet the customer’s requirements at the conference.

“We needed an extremely fast and reliable broadband service and we had an incredibly tight timeframe to get it implemented,” said Four Points by Sheraton Chief Engineer, Nigel Wright.

“We looked at the various options available and BigAir’s wireless broadband service emerged as the clear choice,” he said. “Not only is it one of the most affordable broadband services available in the market, it also offers far superior performance and dependability.

“The wireless broadband was a great option when compared to fibre because it cost considerably less and could be implemented in hours rather than weeks. In fact, we were connected to the BigAir service within 24 hours of placing our order,” said Mr Wright.

With over 13 function rooms and 500 guest rooms of the 630 rooms now connected, guests at Four Points by Sheraton Darling Harbour, Sydney can now access the Internet from anywhere within the building and benefit from extremely fast connection speeds of 10Mbps and carrier grade reliability (99.999% availability).

“As we own and operate an independent network, we are the unique position of being able to provide Australia’s most advanced broadband service with complete control over speed, features and price,” said BigAir joint Managing Director, Jason Ashton.

“Four Points by Sheraton Darling Harbour, Sydney is benefiting from a high-performance solution that is not only fast and reliable, but also comes at a fraction of the cost of landline alternatives,” said Mr Ashton.

BigAir has engineered, built and now operates its own independent broadband network using carrier-grade high-speed wireless equipment. The BigAir service is available in many ‘broadband black holes’ where ADSL and cable services are not - estimated at around 30 percent of homes across Sydney.

Since launching earlier this year BigAir has been rapidly expanding its network across Sydney, offering wireless broadband services to residents and small and medium sized businesses, along with offering its "enterprise grade" (99.999% availability) services to large businesses. BigAir’s business services offer speeds up to 10Mbps and it is planned to offer speeds up to 100Mbps in the near future.

About BigAir
BigAir is a fully licensed telecommunications carrier and infrastructure based ISP rolling out its own broadband network across Sydney, with plans to rollout Australia-wide, using carrier-grade high-speed wireless equipment.
