Embarcadero Technologies Partners With DBE Software to Advance Strategic Data Management Platform

OEM Partnership to Deliver Advanced Database Design Validation, Tuning and Performance Optimisation Functionality

Melbourne, Australia – 30 May, 2006 – Embarcadero® Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: EMBT), a leading provider of strategic data management (SDM) solutions, today announced a partnership agreement with DBE Software to deliver advanced database schema analytic software to bolster the company’s SDM offering. Under the product name Schema Examiner, Embarcadero will provide database developers, designers, and data modellers with new functionality to simplify the validation and analysis of a database’s design for both new and existing database applications across leading database platforms.

In accordance with the terms of agreement, Embarcadero will incorporate DBE’s functionality into several products including its ER/Studio® database design product, and its Rapid SQL® database development product. Embarcadero will sell Schema Examiner through its direct and channel sales force.

“When a database’s performance is suspect, the first thing analyzed after I/O and space allocation is the quality of the SQL being issued to the database. But rarely is the quality of the database design itself put under the microscope,” said Greg Keller, vice president of product management at Embarcadero Technologies. “This partnership allows Embarcadero to equip our customers with powerful analytical software to truly inform them on the quality of a database’s design. The fruit this solution bears is information – useable information – to advise the user on precisely how to improve the quality of the design to optimise performance and ultimately raise the level of quality of data.”

Embarcadero chose to partner with DBE in order to broaden their product offering in both the data architecture and data availability disciplines of their SDM portfolio. Through its partnership with DBE, Embarcadero will provide customers with a cross-platform solution that will maximise database developer and database designer productivity by providing comprehensive diagnostics and reports to repair any potential problems with the underlying database design that could lead to poor performance and data integrity issues.

“Partnering with Embarcadero introduces a myriad of new channels for distribution,” said Luiz Siqueira, president and CEO of DBE Software. “This distribution partnership will enable multiple uses of our product across many divisions within the IT organisation, reaching everyone from data modellers to database developers. Together we’ll deliver a solution that reduces the cost of developing and maintaining database applications by addressing the quality of the underlining database schema. This will carry a high return on investment for existing and new customers at both Embarcadero and DBE.”

The market offer adds value to the Embarcadero product line and direct value to end-users due to the following features:

• Comprehensive Diagnostics and Reporting. Schema Examiner analyses the schema’s data structure and generates graphic documentation of the entire database structure. The diagnostic can be customised.

• Design Discrepancy Isolation. The innovative “Show Me” facility isolates specific design issues in complex data models, eliminating the task of sifting through thousands of lines of code.

• Improved Productivity and Accuracy. A comprehensive set of diagnostics validates database design, recommends improvements, and automatically generates scripts to quickly execute design changes.

• Maximise Design Efficiency. Schema Examiner allows users to check and validate alterations to a database design, as well as simulate design changes before implementing them.

• Increase database performance by identifying violations of best practices that adversely affect performance. Suggested changes are scripted for easy implementation.

• “Teach Me” Facility. In addition to providing specific diagnostic and recommendations, the solution explains reveals the impact of design choices or modifications in light of Relational Theory.

Embarcadero Schema Examiner will be available in the second quarter of 2006.
