JBL join smart speaker arena with the portable, waterproof and (Google-powered) JBL Link range

Audio brand JBL have announced Australian pricing and availability for their new Link series of smart speakers.

“We are thrilled to pair JBL’s incredible legacy of award winning sound with our growing line-up of voice-
controlled speakers,” said Michael Mauser, President of the Lifestyle Audio Division at HARMAN.

The new range of smart speakers arrive powered by the same Google Assistant found in the Google Home. JBL aren't the only audio brand to offer this kind of Assistant-powered experience in recent months, with Sony and Sonos also trying their hand at building a better speaker than the baseline Google Home.

However, JBL are moving to sweeten the deal with added portability (both the Link 10 and Link 20 boast standalone batteries that allow you to use them away from a power outlet) and durability (both come IPX7 rated against water damage). The speakers will also come with integrated Chromecast support.

According to Mauser, “JBL LINK is a first-class wireless smart speaker that allows consumers to entertain and enjoy world class sound in a sleek, portable package.”

The main differences between the two models in the range comes down to size, audio output, battery life and price. The JBL Link 10 is priced at $229 and boasts two 8W speakers and 5 hours of battery life. The JBL Link 20 is priced slightly-higher at $299 but bumps the sound output to 10W and doubles the battery life.

The JBL LINK 10 and 20 will launch in JB Hi-Fi and Harvey Norman in Australia on 27th November 2017, before being released to retailers Australia-wide.
