CES 2018: Everything Announced By Razer

Following on from last year’s Razer Smartphone and Razer Blade Pro, 2018 is shaping up to be a big year for the company. It all starts at this year’s CES in Las Vegas.

Usually a playground for sin and vice, the week-long consumer technology mecca sees Vegas become a playground for gadgets, gizmos and everything in between.

Here’s what Razer brought to this year’s CES:

Razer Firefly & Mamba HyperFlux

What is it?

New versions of the company’s existing wireless mice and mouse mat that now come with a form of wireless charging similar to the Logitech PowerPlay. However, the difference here is that Razer aren't actually using the mousepad as a charger but ditching a battery entirely.

What’s exciting about it?

Like similar offerings from Logitech and MadCatz, it promises to take the solid wireless mouse experience that Razer have delivered in the past and take out the biggest drawback.

According to Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan, “HyperFlux Wireless Power Technology is a game changer in the world of wireless gaming,”

“Gamers are no longer held at the mercy of a battery or cable. Instead, there will be true wireless freedom with a cordless gaming mouse that’s the same weight as a wired mouse.”

“While other companies have attempted to do wireless charging for mice, they have been unable to achieve true wireless power as their mice still need a battery to be charged.”

When will it be available?

Razer say that the pair will be available from the first quarter of 2018.

How much will it cost?

In the United States, the Razer Firefly & Mamba HyperFlux will arrive at a price of $249.99. No word yet on local pricing.

Has Australian availability been confirmed yet?

Nommo Speaker Range

What is it?

A trio of desktop-based speakers that promise to bring a THX Certified, 2.1 speaker sound system with Dolby Virtual Speaker technology to gamers.

What’s exciting about it?

The range was engineered to aid gamers with sensing environmental factors. Razer say the speakers feature accurate positional audio using true left and right stereo imaging. In addition, the more-expensive Nommo Pro also features Independent Tweeters for enhanced highs.

There’s also set to be a Chroma variant of the speakers - letting you sync it with the rest of your RGB-enabled tech.

When will it be available?

The Nommo and Nommo Chrome will be available through Razer’s own online storefront from this week. The Nommo Pro does not yet have an official launch date.

How much will it cost?

In the United States, the baseline Razer Nommo will retail for US$99.99, the Chroma model will retail for US$149.99 and the top-of-the-line Pro variant comes in at US$499.99. No local pricing has been announced yet.

Has Australian availability been confirmed yet?

Australian availability for all three speakers has not yet been confirmed.

Other Tidbits

You also might have seen pictures or reactions going around to something called Project Linda. Razer is a company known for bringing eccentric concept products to show off at CES and Linda is the latest. Basically, it’s a laptop shell to the Superbook or Mirabook.

However, it’s exclusively designed to work with the company’s new smartphone - and it looks gorgeous. Whether it’ll ever actually make it to market is a bit up in air. Still, as a concept, it’s a thrilling thing to behold.

More on Project Linda here.

The company also announced a fresh partnership with Philips and the Hue range of smart lights. As a result, Razer customers will now be able to sync their Philips Hue color-capable smart lighting with their Razer Chroma-enabled devices.

“We’re excited about this first integration to bring Philips Hue Entertainment to life for consumers. We have seen high demand from gamers for a richer game-play experience,” said Chris Worp, Business Group Leader Home at Philips Lighting.

“Our smart lighting can deliver just that. Philips Hue takes the content beyond the screen and extends it into the living room. For gamers, this ‘surround sound for your eyes’ is incredibly powerful when synced with the Razer Chroma-enabled devices.”
