Android Wear 3.0 Release Date Rumours

We speculate on a potential Android Wear 3.0 release date and what new features it might bring to Android smartwatches

Google has not confirmed when we will hear news on an Android Wear 3.0 update, but we're expecting some new information at Google I/O 2018. We outline what new features we'd like to see in the new smartwatch OS.

When is the Android Wear 3.0 release date?

It's difficult to speculate on an Android Wear 3.0 release date because we have not previously seen annual updates to the platform. However, it is no longer in its infancy, with many of us now pairing smartwatches running Android Wear with our phones.

Android Wear is software, and as such it makes sense that Google would talk about any forthcoming updates during its annual software developers' conference, Google I/O.

The final dates have yet to be confirmed, though we expect this to take place in mid-May, potentially 16-18 May 2018.

This is unlikely to be the release date of Android Wear 3.0 - more likely the company will announce a developer preview and we'll see the final version released later in the summer, potentially August or September.

How much will Android Wear 3.0 cost?

Android Wear 3.0 will be a free update for Android Wear 2.0 watches, but there is no guarantee older models will be upgraded. Likewise, if your watch is still stuck on Android Wear 1.0, you will not see an upgrade.
