MWC 2019: Energizer unveil a mad-sketchy foldable phone of their own

First, Samsung. Then, Huawei. Now, Energizer?

Hot on the trails of tech giants like Samsung and Huawei, Energizer is looking to cash in on the foldable phone trend with a device of their own.

Boasting a design similar to Samsung's Galaxy Fold, Energizer's foldable phone can be used as either an 8-inch tablet or a 6-inch smartphone. Both options offer up FHD+ resolution, while the device itself runs on Snapdragon's 855 chipset.

If and when it ever materialises, Energizer are promising the flexible device will offer 5G connectivity, a dual-lens rear camera (48-megapixels + 12-megapixels), a 24-megapixel front-facing camera, 256GB of storage, 10,000mAh battery and 8GB of RAM. As far as specs go, there's nothing to scoff at here. These are the sorts of numbers you'll find in most modern flagships and the battery here is considerably larger than even that found in Samsung and Huawei's most powerful smartphones.

That said, the unit being shown off at Energizer's booth at Mobile World Congress wasn't a real working prototype. It was just a model. The screen was a sticker and, even then, the "device" was still locked off behind glass. Still, it's at least interesting to see Energizer on the frontlines of what could be the next big trend in consumer electronics.

It's not clear at this time when and if the Energizer foldable phone will ever or eventually come to Australia, nor where you'll be able to buy it if it does.

What does it mean to consumers? An Energizer foldable phone might soon be a thing you can buy. Seriously.

As the Maserati or BMW of laptops, it would fit perfectly in the hands of a professional needing firepower under the hood, sophistication and class on the surface, and gaming prowess (sports mode if you will) in between.
