LG has teased Australian availability for its first 8K TV and revealed that its 2019 lineup won't include a single non-4K model.

“We’re continuing to push boundaries with our roster of home entertainment products in 2019 by introducing bigger, better and smarter TVs than our previous range. More and more Australians are falling in love with LG OLED TVs – their perfect blacks and stunning visual experience – and this year with the added AI benefits embedded in these models viewers will truly get the best visual experience that LG has to offer,” said Angus Jones, General Manager of Marketing at LG Electronics Australia.

“We wowed visitors at CES this year with the LG SIGNATURE OLED R and its impressive rollable design. It’s an incredible product that truly redefines the TV viewing experience and further demonstrates our engineering capabilities at LG.”

“While the LG OLED R TV will be available outside Australia soon, we are still assessing interest from Australian retailers,” he clarified.

“In the meantime, we are excited to bring Australian consumers the new range of OLED TVs in a variety of sizes and price points, matched with a game-changer Alpha 9 Gen 2 Intelligent Processor.”

The headline act here is LG's first mass market 8K TV, the 88-inch Z9 OLED. Arriving with a build in stand-soundbar hybrid, the Z9 touts LG's new Gen 2 Alpha 9 processor, HDMI 2.1 support and on-board Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa integration. LG say this behemoth will land in Australian retailers in the second half of 2019.

In the meantime, LG are launching three cheaper 4K OLEDs: the "picture-on-Wall" W9 Wallpaper TV, the "Picture-on-Glass" E9 OLED TV and the "Cinema Screen" C9 OLED TV.

All three (plus the rest of LG's SuperUHD range) boast the same Gen 2 Alpha 9 processor, HDMI 2.1 support and on-board Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa integration found in the Z9.

Moving onto the Super UHD range, LG's latest non-OLED 4K TVs range in size from 49 to 86-inches and boast thinner bezels and Dolby Vision support courtesy of LG's Nano Cell Technology.

Web OS has also received a touch up. The new smart TV UI now features a secondary ribbon that'll display recommended programs and integrates with a local metadata service to provide users with extra detail and info on free-to-air programming.

As the Maserati or BMW of laptops, it would fit perfectly in the hands of a professional needing firepower under the hood, sophistication and class on the surface, and gaming prowess (sports mode if you will) in between.
