Xara Web site menu maker 1.0

Menu Maker is a bit of a one-trick pony, but it performs that trick well: creating dynamic menus for a Web site. This program takes a wizard-driven approach to creating graphical menus that incorporate JavaScript and DHTML (dynamic hypertext markup language) effects such as cascading options and transparency.

At first glance, this approach appears slightly restrictive — Xara includes dozens of templates, for example, but these cannot suit all Web sites. At each stage, however, you have a dialogue box that allows you to tweak just about everything in a menu (including loading your own graphic designs. See here for a screenshot). You will need to try things out, though, as the default graphics are rather fussy.

Menu Maker does pretty much everything it says on the package and, if you are willing to experiment with various designs, you can create extremely sophisticated effects. The program integrates with Dreamweaver and FrontPage.

Anyone involved in Web design on a regular basis will find Menu Maker a welcome addition to their design software outfit. If you are an experienced professional, don’t be put off by Xara’s user-friendly interface: this is a program that allows you to manipulate just about every aspect of your files, and you can load the created script files into a text editor for further fine-tuning. If you only intend to create one Web site, $US19 is a little expensive; otherwise, Menu Maker is highly recommended.

In brief: Xara Menu Maker 1.0
If you have a bit of patience, you can create menus for your Web sites complete with some nifty effects.
