• 15 November, 2004 11:21

SYDNEY, Australia – Optima Technology Solutions (ASX:OPI), Australia’s largest computer manufacturer, is sponsoring the Victorian Technology Teachers Association (VITTA) Education Conference, helping primary and secondary educational institutions better incorporate technology into their curriculum and learning practices.

To be held at Flemington Racecourse from November 22-24, the annual VITTA event is the largest information communication technology (ICT) focused conference in Victoria. As a Platinum event sponsor, Optima will conduct a range of in-depth IT workshops during the three-day conference. These sessions will focus on network design and security, disaster recovery and wireless networking, and aim to assist teachers and IT professionals in developing their technical skills and knowledge. Tony Maguire, who recently joined Optima as Queensland State Education Manager, will also be making a keynote presentation investigating the concepts of Communities of Praxis and how ICT can accelerate their development.

“Educational organisations are increasingly realising the value of integrating information and multimedia tools into the classroom, giving students access to real-world technologies that promote dynamic and engaged learning,” said Juli Rush, National Education Development Manager, Optima Technology Solutions.

“Optima has serviced the education sector for nearly ten years and we are actively supporting the VITTA Education Conference as we want to help teachers acquire the technical skills and strategies they need to better incorporate emerging technologies and applications into their teaching practices.”

Throughout the conference, Optima will be holding interactive computer demonstrations using its latest WorkPro K8 PC. Over 50 units will be set in a traditional classroom configuration, providing people with a hands-on opportunity to test PCs in a school environment. As part of a special event offer, attendees will be able to purchase the demonstration model for $970 ex GST - a 23 percent
discount off of its recommended retail price. This offer is valid until the end of the conference and is available while stocks last.

Based on the AMD Athlon™ 64 Processor, the Optima WorkPro K8 Series is a 64-bit PC that delivers leading-edge performance for current 32-bit applications and provides a migration path to future 64-bit applications - allowing schools to maximise their IT investment. This PC features 512MB RAM, a DVD burner and front-side Firewire ports, and is available with either a 17-inch multimedia CRT or 15-inch glass panel LCD. Supplied with a three-year onsite warranty, the WorkPro K8 Series PC is a reliable and robust unit that is ideal for educational purposes.

Optima has developed a number of solutions dedicated to the education sector. Further information about these services, along with a range of notebooks, desktops and servers built for this market, will be on display at the Optima stand (number nine).
