New Integrity Tsunami Washes Away Costs

 • 11 July, 2003 12:37

Australian wireless pioneer Integrity Data Systems has launched new technology that has slashed the cost and complexity of deploying outdoor wireless networks.

The Tsunami MP.11’s centralised router uses the new Wireless Outdoor Router Protocol (WORP) to exchange network traffic with simple-to-deploy “subscriber units”. These units in turn communicate with wirelessly networked PCs, notebooks and PDAs.

This three-tier wireless network model dramatically reduces the cost and complexity of deploying wireless local area networks across the “last mile” gap. It is ideally suited to university and school campus networks as well as providing affordable and flexible surveillance networks for shopping centres and parks.

Integrity Data Systems CEO Ross Chiswell said the Tsunami MP.11 delivered twice the benefits of earlier outdoor wireless technology. “We have a double header in terms of improvement in this type of technology,” he said. “It’s both better and cheaper than what’s been available in the past.”

The Tsunami MP.11 performs 20 to 40 per cent faster than existing outdoor router solutions and cover distances as far as 25kms. It integrates easily into existing networks.

The solution’s low cost and simple installation delivers a rapid return on investment.

The Tsunami MP.11 Base Station Unit, which can support as many as 100 Subscriber Units, costs $1862 - 57 per cent less than the product it replaces in Proxim’s line.

Tsunami MP.11 Subscriber Units cost from $759 to $1127, depending on its features. These units can support from eight clients to an unlimited number of clients.
