Big Brother Meets Wireless LAN

 • 01 September, 2003 10:48

The omniscient viewpoint of Big Brother has invaded the wireless LAN with the latest software upgrade of Bluesocket Version 3.0 allowing detailed monitoring of activities across the network.

For organisations that want to secure and manage resources in a wireless LAN, Version 3.0 offers the ability to manage networks at a granular level, managing users by controlling what they can see and where they can go.

Bluesocket technology is already installed in six universities Australia-wide. The micro level of management provided by Version 3.0 will allow a professor to turn off student web access to a classroom during an exam, while maintaining their own access at the same time.

The quality of service (QoS) support for Version 3.0 utilises traffic optimisation control for incoming and outgoing traffic and bandwidth prioritisation. These key enhancements offer the potential for organisations to account for data traffic with increased management and monitor controls.

Integrity Data Systems CEO Ross Chiswell said Version 3.0 was an ideal wireless LAN management tool for organisations with multiple users. “Version 3.0 is the eyes and ears of the management system giving administrators added senses within the wireless LAN,” he said.
“The upgrade includes interface enhancements making it more intuitive and easy to use. It’s really a case of the software getting smarter and simpler.”

Version 3.0 is included in all new Bluesocket units including the WG-1100, WG-1100soe, WG-2100 and WGX-4000, and offered as part of the upgrade path for organisations with a software maintenance agreement. Bluesocket Version 3.0 is also available for free to any organisations that bought Bluesocket products after June this year. For more information, call 1300 131 000, email or visit
