Realising the potential for its Australian call centre staff to be distracted, US e-commerce CRM specialist TeleTech International has introduced several innovative incentives intended to discourage absenteeism.
The major inducement is the chance to win a Ford motor car just by turning up to work. Each employee who works a rostered shift in accordance with preset punctuality and attendance standards will receive a ticket in a lottery with the car as first prize.
Louis Carroll, president and CEO of TeleTech International, said the lottery is just one of a number of schemes the company is implementing to motivate and retain staff and "reflect the spirit of the Games".
"We want to make the workplace as enjoyable as it possibly can be during the Olympics for those staff who are forgoing the opportunity to attend Olympic events," Carroll said.
Other incentives that have been introduced to help set the scene include the installation of television monitors on each floor of the company's customer interaction centres so that staff are able to watch sporting events live, free breakfasts and afternoon teas, competitions to win tickets to Olympic events, and special prize draws whenever an Australian wins a gold medal. Several of the incentives will be retained after the Games, Carroll noted.
"Our employees are extremely valuable to us and we want to do everything we can to ensure coming to work is as enjoyable as it can be and to compensate them for the extra effort that might be involved in getting to work," he explained.
