Melbourne technology company wins Federal Government’s COMET grant

 • 24 August, 2003 07:15

MEDIA RELEASE 22.09.03 Melbourne based internet technology company Exinda Networks has won a significant grant from the Federal Government’s AusIndustry COMET program .

The highly competitive grant program has provided $52,000 to Exinda to develop and market its world leading internet optimisation technology – Exinda Optimizer– for national and international distribution.

Exinda Director Mr Anthony Bodin said the funds would allow the company to pursue important benchmarking opportunities against its competition as well as expand its business base.

Commercialising Emerging Technologies (COMET) is a competitive, merit based grants program delivered by private sector Consultant Business Advisers which supports businesses and individuals to increase the commercialisation of innovative products, processes and services.

It awarded Exinda Optimizer its grant on the basis of its position in the new wave of internet-focussed software that allows businesses to improve productivity by increasing workplace productivity through maximising the value of existing technology.

Exinda Optimizer is a low cost internet optimisation network appliance that allows an organisaton to precisely monitor its internet traffic and provide subsequent optimisation policies to increase network performance.

Exinda Optimizer has been installed in more than 100 sites in Australia and South East Asia including the Singapore office of Ernst and Young, Australian Industry Group and Homeside Lending (a division of NAB).

Mr Bodin said working in conjunction with a research centre at RMIT University enabled Exinda to develop world class software to compete with larger US-based competitors but at a fraction of the cost.

“One of the most attractive elements of the Exinda solution is its ease of deployment and value. It is a simple cost per unit installed rather than a complicated, expensive re-occurring licensing system,” Mr Bodin said

The simple appliance that contains the software is rack mountable or can stand on a desktop and interfaces with a normal PC.

“With typical productivity gains and reduction in network charges it can pay for itself within weeks,” Mr Bodin said.

He said the software provided highly detailed information on traffic usage and network application. By pinpointing high traffic it can quickly pinpoint inefficiencies, illegal or non-permitted uses.

“By knowing how the internet connection is being used companies can then seek to optimise their performance.”

“This can be achieved by allocating band width to individual computers on an as-needs basis that not only reduces bandwidth wastage but in many cases reduces overall bandwidth requirements,” Mr Bodin said.
